The Bar Commission has filed a petition with the Utah Supreme Court to increase licensing fees beginning with the 2010-2011 renewal cycle. The petition with all exhibits and attachments may be found online below. (All documents are in PDF format.)
It was twenty years ago when licensing fees were last increased. Three years ago the Utah Supreme Court directed the Bar to undertake an outside review of its governance and operations. Grant Thornton conducted that review and recommended that the Bar do a follow-up and in-depth reviews of our operations. Accordingly, commissioners have completed studies and issued reports on management and technology, communications, admissions, access to justice, and benefits/services, professional conduct, continuing legal education, building/property, client security fund, and fee dispute resolution. This three-year review effort has indicated several areas where investment in future operations, planning, development, and offerings are necessary. You will find additional resources and information below. Please take the time to review the petition and these documents.
