H. Dickson Burton - Third Division Candidate

imgStatement of Candidacy

Dear Colleagues,
I am just over halfway through a one-year term on the Bar Commission, and I am running now for a full three-year term.  I hope to be able to continue my service to you and I ask for your vote.
Like most of you, I am proud to be an attorney in Utah.  As a member of the Bar Commission, I will continue to do my best to help the Bar provide attorneys with the services they need in a fiscally conservative way, as well as to help preserve the quality of the bar and the independence of the judiciary.
To introduce myself to those who don’t know much about me, I have been a member of the Utah Bar for 27 years, but because of the specialized nature of my practice, I have not interacted professionally with many of you.  I am the senior litigator at TraskBritt, where I am also a director and member of the firm’s three-person Management Committee.  In addition to litigating Intellectual Property disputes in Utah and in courts around the country, I often serve as a mediator, arbitrator and expert witness in various patent, trademark and trade secret disputes.  I have also been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Utah College of Law.
Our profession is facing a variety of challenges from a changing economy to a changing public image.  How we face those challenges is critical not only to our professional well-being, but also to how legal services are delivered and how the rule of law continues to be respected. We need to continue to be smart, proactive and well-prepared as we seek to transform these challenges into opportunities, while preserve core principles of professionalism and integrity.
I am very grateful for the support of many colleagues and friends, including the following:
